Project development: Denim as workwear

Looking at the origins of Denim and the purpose of its invention and fabrication, I decided it would be interesting to work into the fabric, adding and taking away sections of the ground. I decided to work with the laser cutter. This medium allowed me to take away sections and then reattach those pieces to build thicker layers and texture. Because Denim was originally designed as work wear, I liked the idea of exaggerating and making certain areas of the ground, more dense. I then thought about the contradiction of leaving the other areas completely open and redundant to the original purpose of protection and durability.
